April 15, 2021: Vaccination Still Available

Vaccination Still Available with the Pause of the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine

Every County resident aged 16 and older is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination and vaccination sites and appointments continue even with the pause of the use of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Residents ages 16 and 17 can only receive the Pfizer vaccine, the only vaccine currently approved for people under 18, and in San Bernardino County Pfizer is available only at the County’s public health sites and the State’s OptumServe sites. They will also need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the Pfizer vaccine. For more information or to schedule your vaccination appointment please visit the San Bernardino County vaccination page or call (909) 387-3911 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

San Bernardino County has temporarily paused use of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with recommendations made “out of an abundance of caution” by state and federal health agencies. The pause was issued in response to six reported out-of-state cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine. More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S. The federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices convenes today to review the cases.

County-operated vaccination events scheduled to utilize the J&J vaccine have been switched to Pfizer. Those with appointments for those events are being notified. There are no plans to cancel any vaccination events at this time and second-dose appointments will be made when first doses of Pfizer are administered.

Additional information is available on a fact sheet published by the County.
